Each year, more than 100,000 students in the Twin Cities alone go back to school without a backpack and essential supplies needed to succeed in class.

United Way has been teaming up with all 7 of Minnesota’s pro sports teams (Minnesota Vikings, Twins, Wild and more) since 2016 to bring together thousands of volunteers at Action Day to make a difference in the lives of local kids. The event packed 40,000 backpacks full of school supplies in 2018-2019.

This is just one of many large-scale events where I facilitated media relations and secured on-brand coverage drafting press releases, crafting key messages and FAQs and pitching consumer/news outlets as well as industry publications. (We also had C-suite executives from Fortune 100 companies speak at the event in addition to United Way leadership and I provided talking points and positioning.)

Another great example is Super Bowl LII, which took place in Minneapolis in 2018. United Way has a national multimillion dollar cause marketing partnership with the NFL’s PLAY 60 + Character Playbook and we secured an activation at the Super Bowl Experience. Along with our CCO, I managed media relations efforts including executive interviews and on-site media for the 8 days leading up to the big game.
